The following are some links to videos that will show you characters walking through old Ironforge. Again, and this can't be stressed enough, enjoy this content but we strongly urge you against trying to get to these locations in the game itself. This site was created to give you all the information you want on WOW's secrets while keeping your account from being banned!
Below Ironforge, exists a natural chamber made of organic stone formations. No chisel or pick has touched the area. What lies below is the Hall of Thanes, where the past Kings of Iron Forge are buried...
It is kept as a treasure within the Hall of Thanes to honor the dead Kings. Brann Bronzebeard thinks that the Titans left the anvil behind for some purpose the Dwarves need to find out. Maybe once the Dwarves uncover the truth of their ancestry, they will find its purpose.
"Old Ironforge" is exactly that -- Old IF. It was the way IF looked up to and including the All-Alliance push of closed beta. I even had a quest that led me to some high ranking nobles that resided on the big flat piece at the top of the colomn.
Blizzard then redesigned IF with the intention of making it less rough on your computer, back in the day the lag you experience in IF is nothing compared to the lag in old-IF. Old-IF consisted of three rings around the outside of the city, with the forge and the high seat at the middle.
I walked down there today and took a chance by posting a GM ticket asking what it was. I got a response saying that Old IF is due for some future content, and everything is there, just non-functional.
The GM's exact words when I asked if it was just an easter egg area or a place for future content were: Everything is working as intended.
That didn't make sense to me and then I got the closing text macro "Thank you for..." blah blah blah. Stuck in the middle though was ":cough:future content:cough:".
I'm excited. ^_^
The purpose of "Old Ironforge" is as-yet unknown. The content is still in the game, leading many to speculate that this area may be opened up at some point in the future.
During the closed beta of World of Warcraft, there was a ramp leading to a cavern beneath the city of ironforge called "Old Ironforge." This area was accessed from King Magni's chamber, and while there are still a few ways to "sneak into" Old Ironforge, official entrance was blocked in a patch during Open Beta.
